10 years on Blogspot!!

I can't believe I've been blogging for 10 years here! Well, I've posted for 10 years but I've not been active for the past 2 or 3. Oh well, Facebook is more convenient for my friends though most there aren't interested in technology related posts.

Can't believe the crappy spam that people send

Can't believe the crappy spam that people send - apparently I died in a car accident and my next of kin isn't sure about his/her gender! This is to inform you of your long overdue Payment outstanding in our records. We saw your name in the Central Computer among list of unpaid inheritance claims individuals and have to update your information?s through this email contact for immediate confirmation.Your name appeared among the beneficiaries who will receive a part-payment of US$2.500, 000 million (Seven million and five hundred thousand United State Dollars)and it has been approved already for payment months ago. However we received an email from one (Mrs Katherine Louise johnson) who told us that he is your next of kin and that you died in a car accident four months ago. He has also submitted his account information?s to the office department for transfer of the fund to him as your Successor. We are now verifying by contacting your email address as we have in our record

2009 is the year of the Linux desktop!!!

"2009 is the year of the Linux desktop!!!" - Installed Fedora 10 on Dell laptop - mouse cursor incredibly slow when using trackpad; set acceleration and speed to max, not much better - random automatic "mouse button" clicks being inserted by trackpad - screen resolution set to highest, which is good - incredibly slow scrolling in firefox - keypresses sometimes don't register unless I wait 1s between pressing each key installed gsynaptic (yes, it's obvious what this does right?!) - fixes trackpad issues (had to hack xorg.conf) disable "bounce keys" ignore fast duplicate keypresses - fixes missing keypresses installed nvidia binary drivers - fixes slow scroll but now I'm stuck at 640x480 (hacked xorg.conf but no change) I repeat "2009 is the year of the Linux desktop!!!" Apologies for the badly written rant - the subject doesn't deserve proper spelling and grammar. Here endeth my love affair with desktop linux - I'm buying a Mac

The end is nigh Microsoft has reached an all new low: Songsmith ad Sure, the technology might be clever but the music it produces and the commercial are god-awful. I would be embarassed if I was in any way associated with this commercial. Fire the lot of 'em!

Currently listening to... "Revelation" by Journey

I got an iPod Shuffle for Christmas and Journey's latest album "Revelation", with a new singer. It includes 2 CDs, the second contains a number of classic Journey songs re-recorded with the new singer. If you like Journey, I suggest you get this. There are some really good new songs and some not so good new songs. The new singer (Arnel Pineda) sounds a lot like Steve Perry but his vocals stand up on their own. I just learnt on Wikipedia that Jeff Scott Soto sang with Journey for a while; he's an awesome singer so I'll see if they released an album with him.
